Scale

1 pound uncooked pork breakfast sausage

1 tablespoon olive oil

12 large eggs

2 cups half-and-half

2 teaspoons dry mustard powder

1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt

1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

8 ounces sharp white cheddar cheese, freshly shredded

6 slices hearty white sandwich bread

Instructions

2. Prepare a nine by thirteen inch baking dish with non-stick spray.

3. Whisk the eggs, half-and-half, dry mustard, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.

4. Cube or tear the bread into one-inch pieces and grate the cheddar cheese.

5. Incorporate the cooked sausage, bread cubes, and half of the cheese into the egg mixture.

6. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and top with the remaining cheese.

7. Refrigerate for at least eight hours or bake immediately.

8. Bake uncovered at three hundred fifty Fahrenheit for 50 to 55 minutes until the center is set.

9. Allow the dish to rest for ten minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Use a thick-cut bread like Texas Toast for the best texture.

Always grate cheese from a block for a better melt.

If baking straight from the fridge, add 5 to 10 minutes to the cook time.

Internal temperature should reach one hundred sixty Fahrenheit.
