This easy pumpkin dessert features a creamy pumpkin custard base topped with a buttery, crunchy yellow cake and walnut crust. The perfect nostalgic treat for autumn.

1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin puree

1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk

1 cup white sugar

3 large eggs

4 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice

1 (15.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix

3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Whisk together pumpkin puree, evaporated milk, sugar, eggs, and pumpkin pie spice in a large bowl until smooth.

3. Pour the pumpkin mixture into the prepared baking dish.

4. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the top of the pumpkin layer.

5. Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the cake mix and sprinkle with chopped walnuts.

6. Bake for 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

7. Cool completely before cutting into 24 squares.

Notes

Do not stir the cake mix into the pumpkin layer.

For a flavor twist, use a spice cake mix instead of yellow cake.

Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
