This simple yet sophisticated sandwich is the ultimate sweet and savory comfort food. It features sharp white cheddar and a quick homemade blueberry compote, grilled on sourdough to perfection.
2 slices Sourdough or Brioche bread
2 oz Sharp White Cheddar, shredded or sliced
1/2 cup Blueberries, fresh or frozen
1 tsp Sugar or Maple Syrup (optional)
1/2 tsp Lemon Juice (optional)
1–2 Tbsp Unsalted Butter, softened
1. Prepare the blueberry compote by gently cooking the blueberries with sugar and lemon juice until they burst and thicken slightly. Set aside.
2. Butter one side of each bread slice.
3. On the unbuttered side of one slice, layer half the cheese, spoon on the blueberry compote, and top with the remaining cheese.
4. Place the second slice of bread (buttered side up) on top.
5. Place the assembled sandwich into a cold, non-stick skillet. Turn heat to medium-low.
6. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
7. Slice and serve immediately.
Use high-quality sharp white cheddar for the best contrast.
For an extra layer of flavor, try adding a small amount of balsamic glaze over the blueberries.
For reheating, use a toaster oven or skillet (never a microwave) to maintain crispness.
